Bhima Koregaon Vijay stamba pride of Dalit
Lacks of Dalit community people visited and gave tribute to Vijay stamba at Bhima Koregaon
The people belongs to Dalit community paid their tribute to Vijay stamba on 1st jan 2020 on occasion of 202nd Anniversary of Bhima Koregaon Battle. This victory pillar is symbol of pride for Dalit community. Every year on 1st January lacks of people flock to this place and this became one of major holy destination for Dalit people.
Two years back in 2018, while celebrating 100th Anniversary some non dalit people started stone pelting on innocent people who visited there. This incident turned to violence few people injured. This incident triggered protest in various part of India. But this time police has taken precautionary measures. It deployed heavy police personal, CRPF and other forces to maintain peace and protect city from violence in amidst of on going CAA protest in country.
Bhima Koregaon Battle
The Battle of Bhima Koregaon was took place in 1818 between huge force of Maratha peshwa and British E.I.C in which majority of soldiers belongs to mahar cast. This battle became honour of Self - Respect for Mahar people because at that time the people belongs to mahar had to bind a broom in their wairst so that their polluted footprint could remove from broom. And they had to tie vessel in their neck so that they could spit in this and they could not drink water from well if they drink water could become polluted.
This Battle of Bhima Koregaon removed all these practices and became first step toward making India free cast.
This Battle won by 500 Mahar over 20000 of Maratha soldiers. This victory became symbol of pride for Dalit.
